In the precision casting process, especially in the "equiaxed" process, the metal temperature is the dominant factor, so it also has a direct impact on many quality characteristics. If the measurement and control are not proper, the difference of metal temperature will affect the final casting size, grain size, porosity (surface and internal), mechanical properties, product quality (i.e., tendency to hot tearing), and filling degree of thin-walled parts.

Therefore, improving the measurement and control of metal temperature will improve the quality and productivity, reduce the maintenance and labor costs, reduce the cost of testing and liability compensation.
